Awareness: YWCA Peterborough, Victoria and Haliburton presents "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" beginning at noon at Peterborough City Hall (500 George St. N., Peterborough, K9H 3R9). When YWCA Peterborough, Victoria and Haliburton launched "Walk A Mile In Her Shoes" in 2009, the topic of domestic violence was pulled out of the shadows and onto George Street. This was the event that got women and men talking about the prevalence of domestic abuse in our community and what they could do to help. Since that time, nearly 500 men have walked the precarious mile through the heart of Peterborough to show their support and continue to raise awareness and funds. To date, over $135,000 has been raised to support the work of Crossroads Shelter and more and more courageous men have been walking tall ever since! We welcome you to step out of your comfort zone on May 25 and Walk A Mile In Her Shoes. Walk south on George Street to King Street, up Water Street and return to City Hall. Walkers, sponsors and volunteers are invited to attend a free pizza lunch at Chemong Road Boston Pizza from 1 - 2 p.m. after the walk.
